| Bagolini Striated Lens |
These finely striated transparent lenses are used to evaluate retinal correspondence in patients with ocular deviations and for the analysis of anomalous correspondence, suppression, etc. Each lens is indexed and mounted in metal rings of circular test lenses measuring 38 mm, with tabs for the examiner's use. When testing suppression, the lenses are placed in a testing frame with the stripes at an angle of 135° and 45° for each eye, respectively.
Procedure:
The two lenses are placed at 45° and 135° in front of each eye, and the patient focuses on a small light source. Each eye perceives an oblique light. Different images are presented to each eye under conditions of binocular vision.
Result:
- If the patient sees two lines crossing at their centers in the form of an oblique cross, it indicates the presence of BSV (abnormal retinal correspondence) or ARC (anomalous retinal correspondence) in the presence of manifest strabismus.
- If the patient sees two lines but they do not form a cross, it indicates the presence of BSV or ARC in the presence of manifest strabismus with diplopia (double vision).
- If the patient sees a single line, there is no simultaneous perception and suppression present.
- If the patient sees a small gap in one of the lines, there is central suppression present.
